Ghatkopar in the 1920s was a village ringed by creeks and salt pans. It was administered by a municipal council led by a Collector The scope and demand for Fashion Design and Interior Design in the warm and welcoming city Ghatkopar is well known. Ghatkopar has a diverse population that has a knack for fashion. There are various fabric markets in the city that sees the demand and hence an overflow of fabrics and textiles from all parts of India as the city has a wide and strong customer base who are willing to stay updates with and adopt to the latest trends in fashion. This brings about a demand for skilled fashion designers who can render their expertise and service to this large population which is not just limited to GenZ! The city sees the presence numerous National and International brands and of one of the biggest malls. f the Suburban District. It became part of Greater Bombay in 1945. There are many interpretations to how Ghatkopar got its name. Some say it refers to the hill range tapering off at Thane, “Ghat ke oopar”, which roughly means “on top of hill”. Others believe the name is derived from the Marathi word for “corner” of the Western Ghats- “Kopara”, therefore, Ghat-kopara.

Ghatkopar is also known for its heritage and one can see glimpse of Victorian architecture. The city is redeveloping with various commercial and residential projects that will require skilled Interior Designers hence creating huge demand. With all these factors Ghatkopar is one of the most ideal destinations for design students. Ghatkopar also offers great Railway and Metro connectivity since the railway station is present on the central line of the Mumbai Railway and Metro.
