ABOUT IIID
IIID — the Indian Interior Designers Institute was founded in 1972 for the purpose of establishing good professional and trade practices, promoting the Image of the Interior Design Profession and exchanging knowledge with other national and international design bodies. The IIID is a member of APSDA, the Asia Pacific Space Designers Alliance.
IIID represents the Interior Design community in India and globally, with over 8,000 members in 31 chapters & centres. In fulfilling the duties it owes to the fraternity, professional community and society as a whole, the IIID has clearly defined aims and objectives.

Member Services
Indian Interior Designers Institute promote the ideals and goals of the interior design profession. In addition, it promotes ethical conduct and fellowship. In its role as an organisation, IIID offers communication and liaison between members and authorities. Additionally, it serves the members’ common interests. There are three primary membership categories in the Institute: Associate, Fellow, and Trade. There are a number of other categories of membership in the Interior Design profession including Affiliate, Education, Licensee, Student, Corporate, Press & Honorary members.
Networking & Collaborations
The IIID is committed to establishing partnerships with similar institutions at the national and international level to improve communication and cooperation between designers, associated professionals, artists, manufacturers, traders and others.
NATIONAL COLLABORATIONS
The IIID collaborates with The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Practicing Engineers & Architects Association (PEATA), Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE) and Institute of HVAC Consultants (ISHARE) at the national level. In New Delhi, IIID works closely with the Council of Architecture (COA).
INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS
The IIID is an associate member of JDF – Japan Design Foundation; and a member of APSDA – Asia Pacific Space Designer’s Association.
APSDA
In 1989, the Chinese Society of Interior Designers (CSID), the Japanese Society of Commercial Designers (JCD) and the Korean Society of Interior Designers (KOSID) founded the Asia Pacific Space Designers Association (APSDA). Members include many designer bodies throughout Asia including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and even Australia and New Zealand. APSDA’s objectives include socialising and learning about different cultures of its members, exchanging information and knowledge through networking, and achieving better design solutions.
IIID formed an alliance with the APSDA as part of its goal of interfacing with international designers; the APSDA was specifically hosting designers from Asia Pacific.
JDF
In its International Design Business Promotion Projects, Japan Design Foundation (JDF) aims to promote design-related activities, foster awareness of design values, present future visions through design works, and accelerate cultural development and international understanding through global exchange programs. A major focus will be on international design competitions and business matching at workshops, as well as the Corporate Design Strategy Forum, the International Design Management Study Group, and Regional to Regional Initiatives for Industrial Development.
Education
IIID maintains a schedule for updating the syllabus on a regular basis. A comprehensive syllabus on Interior Design has been developed and is available to educational institutions for adoption. In the area of interior design, promote research and scientific work. It also supports its members by conducting classes, seminars, and programs that provide continuing education.
“INSITE” the IIID’s monthly publication, gives an overview of the various regional and national activities. In addition, the magazine provides members with continuing education through updates on design solutions and technology, along with examples of good design and design practices found throughout the country.
Awards
By way of an Annual Awards Programme, IIID – ANCHOR Awards, the institute recognises excellence in interior design, both regionally and nationally. Through its annual IIID GODREJ – Innovation Awards program, IIID and Godrej Interio are collaborating to promote creativity in furniture product design.
Exhibitions And Conventions
“SHOWCASE” exhibitions for materials and services related to building & interiors are regularly organised by Chapters and Centers. SHOWCASE exhibition is usually combined with a theme-based seminar or presentation to meet one of the Institute’s objectives.
NATCON is a bi-annual national conference where members from across the nation come together to discuss major issues facing the interior design profession.
At each NATCON new milestones are set in terms of creativity and solidarity within the network.
